Thing #6
I played around with Image Chef a lot! I tried the cartoon maker but could not get it to work- might be my computer at home- it looked like a very cool program. I can see a lot of possibilities for library promotion. I have to confess that I thought it would be funny to make a catalog of Medical Library bling for an April Fool's day in the Library. Oh, and I really loved the trading cards that the Library staff at Carleton did!

Thing #5
I loved the color finder to find photos that have a similar color. I went for lime green and found lots of beautiful photos of foliage. I also really liked the spelling with FLIKR photos and went through lots of names and words with images. I can't remember the name of the application where I made a slideshow of lots of people's photos of hamsters--that was great, too. The badge creator was big fun but my daughter had to help me a little bit.
How would I use this in my library--other than to amuse myself? ;-) I can see doing a nice slideshow of images from my library and/or institution.

Thing 4 Flikr
The photo that I uploaded from Flikr was taken by Cuellar- I neglected to credit the photographer with the photo when I posted it.
I enjoyed the Common Craft video about Flikr and other image services (I was unable to view an earlier recommended Common Craft video.) I took the Flikr tour and really enjoyed the map feature. I looked at photos from Woods Hole, Bihar India, and then from Salamanca. I chose the photo of Salamanca to post because I studied there one summer. Beautiful!
The edible book contest link was hilarious!
I can see countless possibilities for Flikr. For example,my library is part of a large nationwide network. The librarians rarely get to meet or to see the other libraries in the network. It would be great for all of us to photograph our libraries and our staffs to post them on Flikr- it would help us all get a better feel for each other's libraries.

Thing 3 RSS Feeds
I set up a reader on Google and subscribed to some feeds. I signed up for too many news feeds and usually end up doing a very quick scan and then marking them all as read to get rid of them. I also subscribed to The Happiness Project and to a feed about Decluttering your house. Those are fun to look at.
I have noticed several RSS feeds available for medical sites and since I work in healthcare, I think I would find those very useful at work. I'm currently helping with a Baldrige application for my institution and will look to see if there are some good sources that would be useful for me and my team.
This was a helpful 'thing' for me and I will definitely use it for work.

Error 404
When I try to look at other Metronet blogs for round two, I always get ERROR 404. Is anyone else having this problem? It's really frustrating. I've tried getting help from Google, but it's too technical and I can't understand how to fix the problem.

Time for 23 things
If something is important, one will make time for it. I'm doing most of the work on the 23 things at home since my istitution blocks most 2.0 sites. I have taken several one day sessions about 2.0 and now I want to dive in. Luckily, I have a teen age daughter who can help me--even if it means that I have to put up with a lot of eye rolling. Even in institutions that don't allow their users to access many of the very neat tools available, I think that we can figure out out to use at least some of them. I want to be able to speak somewhat intelligently about social networking. I expect that my institution will open up access to these eventually and I want to be ready.
the 23 things program is such a terrific opportunity to learn these.

My First Blog
I'm anxious to get started on 23 things on a stick. My 17-year old daughter is going to help me this summer.
